Trip Leader/Jason (PigPen)
Group/Dave Sr./Casey/Garrett/Ronnie/Enno/Bobby
We planed to run this trail on Thursday, real fast through it and back home before it got hot out....Jason couldn't make it Thursday.....so we changed it to Friday. Just Jason, Myself and Garrett with 2 Zuks. Friday morning Jason and myself are waiting on Garrett this time and couldn't locate the tie down straps for my trailer.....so we called Casey (he used them last) and had him bring them out.....
By now it's pushing 8:30 am......and we still need to gas up and grab a few sodas and "water"....... By the time Casey made it out it was near 9:00 am......and after stopping for gas and grub and "water" it was almost 10:00 am when we hit the trail head.
Jason and Casey had tried this trail before, but later in the day and with no spare tire.....well we were not much smarter.....as we did not bring a spare either....heck we have a warrantee on our's so who cares if we pop one......."how do you spell stupid"?
Ok, back to the trail......We blasted right past where they broke down the last time and it seemed as though Jason's junk was working great.......his t-case had been giving him trouble, but I thought we had it fixed....because it wasn't popping out of 4 wheel drive.
(click on pix to make them larger)
ok, so I didn't take the best line....hard part was staying in my seat to drive through....
this is the "FILTER" if you can make this rock pile.......your good to try the rest....if you can't make this without stacking rocks (and please don't) stay OUT!
this corner is way off chamber and you need to either take the "right line" or be ready to roll.....it is worse than White Line on Lower Terminator in my opinion....we did it right, as did Ronnie and Enno.....more on them later.
Jason never quits finding a line that will get his picture on the Album cover! :-) His 90 inch wheelbase and 4 link wasn't enough to keep the front end down on the line he took......his Zuk is setting on the back door!
My Zuk with 95 inch wheelbase had no trouble climbing up without thrilling the group......notice by now I traded Casey the steering wheel for the camera.....he would rather drive than walk and spot....plus I needed the workout.....so I thought.
Good thing though, because we had no idea Casey was going to need to know how to wheel my junk out through the trail and return back in the way out with spare parts......while I spotted Ronnie and Enno in from the bottom end.....they brought us out the stuff we needed and wasn't about to not run this trail after going to all the trouble.
Casey wasted no time getting used to my "junk" testing it's flex and what it was able to climb over....from here the trail flattens out for awhile......just your normal huge piles of rocks that try to catch your diffs....no big deal.....
I even took the wheel of the "Pig Rig" for a short time, and drove through the easy parts, while Jason took a break...
it didn't take us long to get back into more hard road....nor Garrett long to figure out how to get out of Casey's way when his mind is made up to give it Hell!
I figured we were about half way.....about 45 min. into it.......and everything was going great up to this point....but that was all about to change. The bugs were a pest.....kept getting in your eyes and face....it was starting to get hot, and then the worse thing happened.....
Jason's front out/put gave up again.....so now he is going to try to power his way through in 2 wheel drive and use his winch if he needed too......but then his rear driveshaft bolts worked loose.....so he climbed under it and sat in some stickers.....
he got most of them out of his rear...now he is trying to get the rest out of his shorts.....
Right after that he was trying to 2 wheel drive up another short waterfall and cut a huge hole in a sidewall of yet one more of my tires on the Pig Rig....and we didn't bring a spare "again".... By now it was getting close to noon, and I thought maybe Ronnie would be off work and would be able to run us out a spare tire and even want to play catch up with us.....so I gave him a call...and sure enough he was almost to the shop....and said he would bring what we needed out.....also about the same time Enno called me and wanted to come out to the shop and work on his rig.....so I asked if he wanted to get in on the action.....he said he would be right there..."let's Rock!!!" It took them about a half hour to make it to the trail.....in the mean time Casey and Garrett got around the Pig Rig and was going to meet Ronnie and Enno there to pick up the spare tire and bring it to the top..... Jason was almost to the last waterfall and it was just after noon.
a view from the top and looking at the 2nd picture Jason's rig is near the top left in the wash where the other wash drops in from the top of the picture....Casey and Garrett took these on the way out to get the tire.
While Garrett and Casey went out for spare parts.....Jason waited by his rig in the shade fighting the bugs and the heat......I made my way down to show Ronnie and Enno the way to go through......Little did I know Bobby had came out with Ronnie....he was also over at the shop to pick up the winch he won on eBay, and got suckered in to riding along "just to bring the tire out to us"......Ronnie and Enno made this look easy....even though Enno bent a rear leaf spring near the beginning of the trail
These two made it through so fast it was all I could do to keep up walking...I even held on to the back of the rigs once in awhile to let them pull me along....I had to run to get in front of them to take a picture now and then.....glad they brought more water and bug spray!
back at the accident......oops I mean the Pig Rig.....Casey and Garrett had made it back, changed the flat and now Jason was going to try the last waterfall still in 2 wheel drive.....well poo, the line to the right didn't work....so he tried it to the left.
oooooya! hit it 2nd gear wide open......it will go!
yup, right on it's top! he made it up until the back tires were near the top of the waterfall...then it went over...
By the time they got it back on it's wheels and up on top the water fall....Ronnie and Enno had caught up with them.....so we thought we would get Mine and Ronnie's rig above Jason's and tow strap him out.....while trying to do that.....Ronnie's rear u-joint broke!
We had enough....we're out of water.....Jason needs to get going to go to work.....he had no sleep yet today......and we are all pooped out from Bugs and the heat.....so we leave Ronnie's and Jason's junk and head back to the shop for supplies. We went back out in a couple hours...by this time it's getting dark, no bugs....and much cooler......if you have ever been through this trail, you know what it's like going down the back side and out.......it is not as much fun going in that way! But we all lived Happily ever after.....now that the rigs are all home and safe.....still need to figure out why Jason's will not work up front.....we swapped out another t-case....so maybe it is the locker after all??
Next time, we will all have tools and a spare part for everything! This trail isn't all that hard if nothing breaks and your built for it!
